About Alamo

Nestled in the heart of Wheeler County, Georgia (a county located in the mid-southern part of Georgia) just a rocks throw from the winding Oconee River lies the peaceful city of Alamo. Named for the famous battle of the Texas Revolution, Alamo, the county seat of Wheeler County, incorporated on August 16, 1909. Located at the intersection of Ga. 126 and U.S. 280, Alamo is one of only two cities in Wheeler County. Alamo is just minutes from the famous Little Ocmulgee State Park, The Telfair - Wheeler Airport & less than two hours from the Atlantic Coast. Also, if hunting & fishing are your passion,
Alamo is just the place for you! Looking for opportunity? Alamo is proud to be the home of Little Ocmulgee EMC, Wheeler Correctional Facility-CCA & the Wheeler County School System. Our beloved Little Ocmulgee EMC has over 40 employees, serves over 7,000 customers, through almost 2,000 miles of line & spans over 5 counties. The Wheeler Correctional Facility-CCA has called Alamo it's home since 1998. The Wheeler Correctional Facility-CCA is a leader of our area employment & serves a bed capacity of over 3,000. Our facility also boasts nothing more than a first class working environment with awards of ACA Accreditation in August of 2000 and was re-accredited in May 2003, 2006 & 2009; Wheeler Correctional Facility's Medical Department was presented with the Medical Association of Georgia (MAG) Accreditation in November 2000 and was re-accredited in November 2003, 2006 & 2009. And finally, our most prize possession in Alamo is hands down our
Wheeler County School System.
